Our Story

Sticky Bird and Red Barn Farms

In 1976, Rich and Krista Haws moved their young family to Farmington. As fate would have it, their associations led to the assemblage of 8 farms – leading to the master-planned development we see today. The original plan was to construct a working community farm within the planned mixed-use development to help keep the feeling of the “Farm” in Farmington. After developing the Farm, the Haws family made the decision to turn their efforts toward helping those individuals and families struggling with addiction. This desire to create hope and more meaningful lives led to the establishment of Red Barn Academy, a Serendipitous Encounter with Fortuousity (SEF) that you will hear more about…

Sticky Bird and Red Barn Farms

In 2016, Rich asked Brandon Howard – a close friend and nationally acclaimed Certified Executive Chef for assistance in developing a culinary life skills facility for the Students at the Red Barn Academy. Having witnessed the value of service, hard work, discipline, and structure within a team atmosphere, the Haws family along with Brandon set out to create an opportunity where these principles could be developed.

Two years later, Brandon teamed up with WB Management’s Eric and Scott Slaymaker as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Chef of Winger’s USA. At the same time, WB Management was looking to enter the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry – a perfect fit with the Red Barn Academy’s vision, another (SEF). The life skills training of the Red Barn Students by this seasoned culinary team of Howard & Slaymaker has made for a great partnership. The opportunity for the Students to “SERVE” and the Community to see the change that comes from “Doing the Next Right Thing”, will be on constant display at the restaurant…
